Director
Professor John Loughlin joined the Fellowship of St Edmund’s College in 2010 and is the Director of the Von Hügel Institute (VHI). In addition to his work at the VHI he is also Director of Studies in Politics, Psychology and Sociology, and an Affiliated Lecturer in the Department of Politics and International Studies. Previously he was Professor of European Politics in Cardiff University, where he is now an Honorary Professor, and has held Visiting Professorships and Fellowships in Oxford, Paris, Florence and Princeton.
Research Associate
Peter Allott is the Research Associate for the Plater Trust project on Catholic Social Teaching and the Big Society. He joined St Edmund’s as an MPhil student in 2010. He also holds an MA in Philosophy from London, a BA in Theology from Durham and a BA in Politics and History from Hull. Prior to joining St Edmund’s Peter taught in London and was also a local councillor for the London Borough of Ealing. In addition to his work for the VHI Peter’s main research interest is modern ecclesiastical history.

Dr. Frank G. Madsen is a member of the Council of the Centre for the Study of Post-Secularism (CSPS) at “Tor Vergata” University, Rome, Italy, and a Scientific Advisor at the Pontificia Universitas Gregoriana, Rome, Italy.
Dr Madsen was awarded his Doctorate by Cambridge University (thesis: International Monetary Flows of Non-Declared Origin). He earned his Master’s degree in International Relations in Paris in the Centre d’Etudes Diplomatiques et Stratégiques.

Dr Flavio Comim is a development economist. He is an Affiliated Lecturer in the Department of Land Economy and a Visiting Fellow at St Edmund's, where he was a fellow, college lecturer and director of studies in economics for many years. He is a Lecturer at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, in Brazil, where he teaches Human Development, Sustainable Development and Economics of Poverty. He has recently worked for the United Nations Development Programme in Brazil coordinating its Human Development Report and since then has been a consultant for FAO, UNESCO and UNDP Panama.
